In the 2nd installment of this series, James Koizumi talks to Beckett.
I had the pleasure of playing with Beckett Ashworth in Strathmore a few weeks ago and today as my doubles partner as we took down Sean Rickard and Jackson Pease.
In our second feature profile, I wanted to get his perspective on junior disc golf coming from an ultimate frisbee background.
You’ll notice the fancy new disc golf bag he recently purchased.
Beckett definitely remembers his first two discs, classic parent purchase – an Innova Boss and Firebird!
- Fairway Driver – 160g Westside Stag: for straight drives.
- Mid-range – 177g Discraft Buzzz: straight, controlled mid-range distance.
- Putter – 165g Discraft Challenger: nice feeling plastic in a light weight that can glide far.
Q: What is your favorite thing is about disc golf?
A: Trying new courses, playing more, playing in competitions.
Q: What would be your best tip for new junior players (and their parents) ?
A: If you go a disc golf store and you are going to buy a disc, make sure to ask for the right weight that is specific to the disc that you want and just ask how it flies and stuff, don’t just go and grab a random disc that you can’t throw.
